Email [email protected]. Tell us the macOS version on both Macs, which Mac is the old one, and what you were bringing over when it went wrong.
Before you start
Carryover changes settings and installs software, so make a Time Machine backup of the Mac you are setting up first. Install Carryover on both Macs and keep them on the same network while you pair.
Common questions
The other Mac doesn't appear in the list
Both Macs need Carryover open and need to be on the same network. If macOS asked whether Carryover may find devices on your local network and you said no, turn it back on in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Local Network. You can always type the pairing code instead of picking from the list.
The pairing code is refused
A code works once and expires after ten minutes. Ask the old Mac for a new one and type it on the new Mac — the dash is optional.
Why didn't it copy my app across?
Carryover never copies apps between Macs. It sends you to the App Store, installs with Homebrew, or opens the developer's site, so each app arrives from its own source under its own licence. The job ticks itself off once the app is installed.
A setting says "Not supported on this macOS yet"
Apple stores a few settings in undocumented formats. Carryover only applies those on macOS versions it has been checked against, rather than guessing. An update usually adds new versions.
Some settings need my password, or a restart
Energy, sharing and startup settings are system-wide, so macOS asks for an administrator password. A few settings only take effect after you log out and back in.
How many Macs can I use one licence on?
Three. Paste the same key on each of them.
Lost your licence key?
